Call for Student STEM Poster Abstracts Now Open! 

Who should apply?

Are you an undergraduate or graduate student currently conducting STEM research?  The LSMCE conference will showcase a competitive student poster session. Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) faculty mentors are encouraged to invite their students to apply. The poster session will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in two, 1-hour sessions.

What do poster presenters get?

  • Complimentary conference registration ($75 value)
  • Complimentary lodging for two night at the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel at Keystone Crossing ($350 value)
  • Up to a $250 Travel Award (award is a reimbursement and will include travel expenses up to $250; LSAMP students should talk with their LSAMP coordinator or director for supplemental funding)

What is the timeline?

  1. NOW - AUGUST -- Talk with your faculty mentor. Come up with a research question and start working on your abstract. Abstract Formatting Guidelines
  2. BY Monday, AUGUST 28 - Submit your poster abstract via the form below.
  3. SEPTEMBER 9 - You will receive an email stating if your abstract has been accepted for presentation. If accepted, immediately book your travel. Then start creating a fantastic poster! LSMCE Poster Guidelines 2017
  4. OCTOBER 7 - Arrive at the conference venue by 8:30 AM on Saturday, October 7, to ensure you have time to set up your poster. First poster session starts at 10 AM!

Early submission is encouraged. ABSTRACTS DUE AUGUST 28, 2017, at 11:59PM EDT.


  • This the person submitting and presenting the abstract.
  • The institution where the student is currently enrolled. If the research was conducted at another institution this should be noted in the abstract.
  • Co-authors are NOT PERMITTED to co-present with the primary author. *If there is no co-author leave this field blank.

  • Select one option that best fits your research.
  • The Abstract Title should be no longer than 15 words.
  • Please copy and paste the body of the abstract into this box. INCLUDE: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. Do NOT include author, institution(s), or acknowledgment of funders.
  • Accepted file types: doc, docx, pdf.
    200 words max. NO literature citations should be included in the abstract. Left justify all text. All abstracts should include title, authors, institute affiliation(s), introduction, methods, results, and conclusion. The title, authors and funding acknowledgment does not count toward the 200 words.
  • Students must list the funder(s) of their research project. If there is more than one funder, each funder should be listed separately.

    ALL ABSTRACTS must be approved by either the student's faculty advisor, research mentor, or LSAMP/LSMCE site coordinator.
